An Introduction To The Team

The following are the members of the 2013 Blue Grass Baptist School Haiti Mission Team.  Read the little introduction about each member!

Cameron Lile - My name is Cameron Lile and I am 20 years old. I attend Lindsey Wilson College and I am working toward a degree in Occupational Therapy. This will be my second trip to Haiti with NWHCM. I will specifically be working with the Miriam Center which is special needs kids. ((:

Danielle Johnson – My name is Danielle Johnson, I will be a sophomore at Blue Grass Baptist School.  I can’t wait to go to Haiti to help and serve God’s people.  I’m excited to be a part of Blue Grass’s first mission trip to Haiti.

Lauren Haggard – My name is Lauren, I’m 16 and a junior at Blue Grass Baptist School.  I love meeting new people and experiencing new things.  This will be my first of hopefully many times visiting Haiti.  I’m incredibly excited to get to do God’s work through missions.

Les Karenbauer – I am the husband of Dr. Shawn Taylor and the father of four children:  Tore, Mark, Chris, and John.  Tore is a graduate of BGBS and the other 3 currently attend BGBS.  This will be my third trip to Haiti and to Northwest Haiti Christian Mission (NWHCM).  I went the first time with my daughter Tore in 2009 as part of a group from Lexington Christian Academy (LCA) where my children attended at that time.  Tore felt God was leading her to do a mission trip and my wife and I didn’t want her to go alone.  I ended up going with her and the experience changed the lives of myself, Tore, and our family.  For me, while the time serving the people of Haiti are memories I will always cherish, the most important thing I got out of the trip was how my relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ grew to be so much stronger.  Six months after my first trip to Haiti, the country was hit with an earthquake that killed over 300,000 people and left millions homeless.  Tore and I felt compelled to help the people we had fallen in love with, so in 2010, we returned with a group from our church (Daybreak Community Church), to serve God’s people as He so desired.  This year I am looking forward to assisting Tore, who is our group leader, and watching my son, Mark, and other members of the BGBS community grow in their relationship with God as we embark on this mission trip.  I am also praying that this trip will help plant a seed at BGBS that will lead to other similar adventures for our students, parents, and teachers.

Mark Karenbauer – What’s up!  My name is Mark Karenbauer.  I am 15, and will be attending Blue Grass this year as a sophomore.  I decided to go to Haiti, partly on my own and partly on my family’s.  I wanted to go and my family pushed me to make that dream a reality.  This will be my first and hopefully not my last time.  I have always felt like I want to help the less fortunate.  Jesus says all through the gospels to help the poor.  He says to feed the hungry, give clothes to the naked, and to give shelter to the homeless.  In Matthew 13, Jesus tells the parable of the sower.  We are to plant the seeds in the Haitian’s hearts so they can spread the Word of our marvelous Lord Jesus Christ.  I want to grow closer in my relationship with God and appreciate the blessings in my life.  That is why I am going.  I look forward to playing with the kids and making relationships and friendships that will last for eternity.  I want to show them our joy that we have in Christ.  They will see that joy and want what we have.  I want them to believe in God and be saved.  That is the goal of this mission trip.  Please pray for us while we are in Haiti.  God bless all of you.

Mary Kate Phillips – My name is Mary Kate Phillips. I’m 15 years old and a sophomore at Blue Grass Baptist School. This will be my first mission trip and my first time out of the country! For the past few years I’ve had a pulling on my heart to go on a mission trip, and when the opportunity arose I couldn’t help but take advantage of it. I hope this will be the first of many mission trips, not only to Haiti, but all across the world. I’m excited to see what God has in store for me over the next week and the new out take on life I’ll be bringing back with me.

Rodney Phillips- I am the father of Mary Kate. My wife’s name is Tracie. I work for
Toyota Motors. This is my first time traveling outside the U.S.
Mary Kate and I are good friends of the Karenbauer’s and learned about NWCM from them. Les and Tore are always so excited when they speak of NWCM, Haiti, it’s people and their love for Christ. I am looking forward to traveling there and having an opportunity to be a part of this Godly program.

Shannon Patton - Hi my name is Shannon Patton and I'm 15 years old. This year I've felt God wanting me to do something that didn't involve so much of me. So when I received an opportunity to go to Haiti I knew this was what he wanted me to do. I didn't know how, why, or what I'd be doing there, but God told me to step out in faith and not to give up on my dream to go to Haiti. I've always heard that if it's God's will then it's God's bill, and so it was. He took care of everything for me even though I had my doubts he was still faithful. I don't really know what I'm actually going to accomplish in Haiti, but I'm expecting Him to completely change my life.

Tore Karenbauer – My name is Tore Karenbauer, and I am a junior at Georgetown College.  I am studying International Business and Public Health with the intent on going to work in Haiti after graduation.  I have been on two short-term trips, and I spent 3 months at Northwest as an intern last summer.  I have fallen in love with the Haitian people.  I cannot wait to see this group love on the people I love so dearly.
